What is Myofascial Release?
Myofasical Release (MFR) is fast gaining recognition as the missing link in traditional bodywork and healthcare. It is a specialised manual therapy that focuses on pain, tension, holding patterns and soft tissue dysfunction. MFR releases restrictions within the network of connective tissue of the body, the fascia.
The fascia is a continuous 3D web of collagen and elastin fibres entwined throughout the body from head to toe, like a spider's web. In its normal healthy condition it is flexible and can contract and relax like muscles. Following physical and emotional trauma and poor posture the fascia can harden and become dehydrated. These fascia restrictions do not show up on CAT and MRI scans, or x-rays. Therefore some patients are suffering unresolved pain due to undiagnosed fascia trauma.
How may you benefit from Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release is aimed at everybody. Benefits may include:
* Restoring muscle function and postural alignment
* Promoting self-healing and relaxation
* Reducing the effects of anxiety and stress
* Improving breathing capacity
* Improving circulation and nervous system transmission, and
* Increasing energy levels.
What happens during a session?
The first session will include a free 30 minute initial consultation to determine your present and past health and lifestyle, so as to tailor the treatment to suit your needs. Thereafter, Myofascial Release sessions are 60 minutes long.
The session will involve sustained gentle pressure either skin on skin or over thin cotton clothing. Palpation skills are used to assess the structure and function of the body and follow the elongation of the fascia to a healthy state through the body. You may feel localised movement under the point of pressure or elsewhere in your body as the fascia releases and rehydrates during the treatment.
Advice will be given about what you can do to maintain or improve your wellbeing.
