What is Holistic Massage?

Massage is an ancient form of healing, which has developed over thousands of years, and has been used for the promotion and restoration of health.

The term 'holistic' comes for the Greek word 'holos' meaning whole. The holistic approach aims to restore balance within the body, taking into account the person's whole being, including their emotional and spiritual wellbeing, as well as their physical symptoms or ailments. Holistic massage uses the therapeutic and nurturing power of touch, with each treatment specifically tailored to the client. The massage involves a flowing continuous series of movements, ranging from gentle stroking to invigorating friction and percussion. Massage can be used alone or in combination with other therapies, such as physiotherapy, aromatherapy and stress-management.

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually bands of painful, rigid tissue (called adhesions) in muscles, ligaments and tendons. Adhesions can block circulation, and cause pain, inflammation and limited movement. Deep tissue massage is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted, congested areas, such as stiff neck, sore shoulders, back pain, and tight leg muscles. Restoring movement in the soft tissues alleviates pain and muscle spasm from the problematic area.

How may you benefit from Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is aimed at everybody. Benefits may include:

     * Restoring muscle function and postural alignment

     * Promoting self-healing and relaxation

     * Reducing the effects of anxiety and stress

     * Improving breathing capacity

     * Reducing muscle stiffness and pain, and

     * Repetitive Strain Injury.

What happens during a session?

The first session will include a free 30 minute initial consultation to determine your present and past health and lifestyle, so as to tailor the treatment to suit your needs. Thereafter, deep tissue massage sessions are 45 or 90 minutes long.

The session will involve warming the muscles with brisk massage. The deep tissue techniques will then be applied slowly and with awareness to release adhesions, gradually sinking and accessing deeper areas.  Deep tissue techniques may sometimes cause some discomfort and soreness during or after the massage, but this will be within your comfort zone and should subside in a day or so. This is simply the muscles releasing stored tension and toxins.

Advice will be given about what you can do to maintain and improve your wellbeing and performance llevels.

Deep Tissue Massage: £30 for 45 minutes, or £55 for 90 minutes

What is Traditional Thai Foot Massage?

Thai Foot Reflexology, or Thai Foot Massage as it is commonly called, combines acupressure, energy balancing and stretching to form a powerful therapy. It was brought to Thailand over 2000 years ago by Ayurvedic doctors from India and by Buddhist monks. It is practised everywhere in Thailand today and is a primary component of traditional Thai medicine. Similar to the meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine that carry the ‘chi’ energy, the Thai Medicine ‘energy lines’ known as ‘Sen’ run throughout the entire body with specific reflex points ending at the hands and feet. The obstruction of this flow of energy is believed to be the root cause of discomfort or dis-ease in a person. The techniques of Traditional Thai Foot stimulate and open these channels.

Traditional Thai Foot massage is aimed at everybody. If you have tried reflexology you will enjoy this fabulous treatment! Benefits may include:

     * Improving circulation of legs and feet

     * Reducing stiffness and improving flexibility.

What happens during a session?

The first session will include a free 30 minute initial consultation to determine your present and past health and lifestyle, so as to tailor the treatment to suit your needs. Thereafter, Traditional Thai Foot sessions are 45 minutes long.

The session is usually given fully clothed, ideally wearing loose fitting trousers that can be taken comfortably above the knee. The client can choose to either lie on a massage couch or in a reclining chair. A Traditional Thai stick is used to stimulate the Sen energy lines and reflexology points together with a therapeutic massage to the legs and feet. Traditional Thai Foot induces a relaxed, yet energised state.

Advice will be given about what you can do to maintain or improve your wellbeing.
