What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually bands of painful, rigid tissue (called adhesions) in muscles, ligaments and tendons. Adhesions can block circulation, and cause pain, inflammation and limited movement. Deep tissue massage is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted, congested areas, such as stiff neck, sore shoulders, back pain, and tight leg muscles. Restoring movement in the soft tissues alleviates pain and muscle spasm from the problematic area.
How may you benefit from Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage is aimed at everybody. Benefits may include:
* Restoring muscle function and postural alignment
* Promoting self-healing and relaxation
* Reducing the effects of anxiety and stress
* Improving breathing capacity
* Reducing muscle stiffness and pain, and
* Repetitive Strain Injury.
What happens during a session?
The first session will include a free 30 minute initial consultation to determine your present and past health and lifestyle, so as to tailor the treatment to suit your needs. Thereafter, deep tissue massage sessions are 45 or 90 minutes long.
The session will involve warming the muscles with brisk massage. The deep tissue techniques will then be applied slowly and with awareness to release adhesions, gradually sinking and accessing deeper areas. Deep tissue techniques may sometimes cause some discomfort and soreness during or after the massage, but this will be within your comfort zone and should subside in a day or so. This is simply the muscles releasing stored tension and toxins.
Advice will be given about what you can do to maintain and improve your wellbeing and performance llevels.
